Smiling, Crying, Shaking after the phone call....

MAEF00135

Last Tuesday on the way to lunch, I get a phone call:

"Is this Ms. S********?"

"Yes, it is."

"This is Mrs. C... from the....City Public School System.  Are you where you can talk?"

"I'm on the road right now, but yes, I can talk."

"Would you like to pull over?"

Ok, here is where my mind started turning, though you would be proud because I did remain calm.  But the school system is calling me, no doubt about one of my kids, out of the blue, and now they want to know if I want to pull over!"

I replied, "No, it's ok, I am on my way to lunch but I can talk."

"Well I wanted to call and congratulate you on your son ()'s acceptance to Governor's school."

We received a letter in the first week of March explaining that Jas had been declined on his application for Governor's School next year, and that he would be put on an alternates list.  Which simply meant to all of us, he wasn't going and maybe the following year he could get in.

Well during this phone call all that changed and my heart started beating quickly, I was so excited; but again I held it together on the phone and finished the conversation, thanking her for letting me know.  A slot had come open and they chose Jas from the group to fill it!  I was elated and began to cry, smile, and shake from the thrill of this honor all at the same time.

I wanted to have the family go out to dinner the following night, to celebrate.  Jas chose to hang out at a friend's house instead (of course), so I didn't get my big night that night, but we celebrated over the weekend.

He has accepted his invitation and seems excited about the opportunity.  I am thrilled but I know it is a lot of work.  The program is a Science, Math and Technology based college level program for advanced students and enrollment is tight with only a couple students from each area middle school invited to attend.  This will be another adventure and coming quickly.... Stay tuned!

Find yourself... keeping it real.

CONGRATULATIONS. You must be so proud! God that phone call would have freaked me out though - they should say, "don't worry, it's good news" first thing.

AWESOME! I agree with Ms Single Mama, they should have said "Don't worry, your kid's not in trouble." Way to have to restart your heart!
